Cerakote, a ceramic-based coating, is engineered for exceptional resistance to corrosion, abrasion, and chemicals, making it a top choice for industries requiring long-term protection. In contrast, Teflon and Xylan, both fluoropolymer-based coatings, offer non-stick and low-friction properties but may fall short in extreme corrosion resistance, especially in highly abrasive or high-temperature conditions. Understanding these differences is crucial for selecting the best coating for specific applications.

In coastal and offshore environments, corrosion protection and performance are essential for components such as fasteners, bolts, and threads. These applications require both low friction and superior resistance to corrosion. Recognizing Cerakote as a high-performance alternative to PTFE coatings, we rigorously tested our product against other industry-standard coatings. Additionally, we offer the F Series—our PFAS-free ceramic coatings—designed for high-volume production and manufacturing, available in colors comparable to Xylan.

Cerakote E-100 Blackout coating was tested for head-to-head corrosion resistance against Teflon® Black 958G, Teflon® Metallic Black 420G, and Xylan® 142X coatings, used in marine applications, to prevent corrosion. All coatings were applied to plain steel bolts and zinc plated nuts to increase galvanic corrosion rate.

The analysis was conducted in a Q-Fog salt chamber in accordance with ASTM B117, and evaluated using ASTM D610 for degree of corrosion. All coatings were applied to bolts and hex nuts commonly used in industrial marine environments. Cerakote’s standard for corrosion failure is rust grade 5-G, 3% rusted.

ANALISI A 48 ORE

RISULTATI A 530 ORE

Bulloni Xylan® a 530 ore.

Cerakote Blackout a 3.963 ore

Corrosion levels of Cerakote Blackout after 4,008 hours, Teflon® Black and Teflon® Metallic Black after 640 hours, and Xylan® after 1,871 hours.

Cerakote E-100 Blackout far exceeds the leading competitor’s corrosion protection by over 3,470 hours. Cerakote is driven to providing industries with superior coating solutions, no matter their application. This test shows that when corrosion protection matters, Cerakote is the coating of choice.
